I don’t know where we get the idea that it will, but for many of us, it doesn’t. Unexpected twists and turns deposit us into uncharted territory yet offer to become the grist for the mill that will shape and deepen us if we so allow it.
In my early thirties, my own life took a turn away from the family I’d always dreamed of. I found myself alone and bereft. Unrelenting sorrow and variable forms of depression set in. Yet poultices exist everywhere. When, out of desperation, I began to seek out reliable human healers and alternated with retreat-like solitary interfacing in the magic of the natural world. I began to find my belonging. A lifelong writer, I found words winding through my wounded heart and weary mind to offer truth and solace, both to myself and towards the imaginary audience to whom I was always writing. I believed it likely that the depths of seemingly inconsolable disappointment, loss, and despair I was feeling at times lived in many others, too, and that if I could chronicle my way through, it might help them also forge their own healing paths.
In the process, I began to listen to what I came to call my “Inner Teacher” and became a Body-Mind-Spirit psycho-spiritual therapist. Based on the “path of direct experience” and the foundation of Transpersonal Psychology (connecting psyche and spirit), for the next 20 years I offered 1-1 sessions, in-home healing retreats, and a host of workshops, drawing upon Celtic, Native American, and African ancient and contemporary approaches to living well. More recently, I “re-fired” into authoring books, giving readings, and offering experiential conference talks. We all have our paths, and this one has become mine, step-by-step, unfolding as I do.
My realization that I truly had a kind and reliable Inner Teacher revolutionized my inner growth. It taught me that if we can break free of victimization, we can truly craft our lives. Choice comes alive for us, and our souls become free to explore, learn, and expand in ways we’d never imagined. My current fascination with Quantum Physics, through scientists and consciousness explorers such as Bruce Lipton, Gregg Braden, and Joe Dispensa has enriched my own capacity to experience physical healing and to manifest desires. Foundational teachings through Esther Hicks with Abraham, Deepak Chopra, and Oprah’s “Desire and Destiny” programs, authors John O’Donahue, Angeles Arrien, David Whyte, David Adam, Bill Plotkin, Thomas Moore, Dawna Markova, and a host of others, have become my “family of choice”, my tribe, so to speak, who inspire, encourage, challenge, and motivate. They feel like kin with my own Inner Teacher. The best teachers (including your own) simply awaken you to your true self.
My vision for you is that you find your own best teachers to support your inner wisdom as you stretch and deepen into all of who you really are, and that you benefit the world by sharing that vital energy as only you can.
Robyn Bridges, M Ed, LPC, has actively assisted spiritually oriented individuals in navigating their soulful paths for the past 30 years. After 25 years as a Transpersonal Therapist and former counselor through her business, Regenesis: Home of New Beginnings, she has now developed a new beginning herself, offering the same soulful support through authoring inspirational books, podcasts, CD’s, and presentations. Through Robyn’s psychologically sound insights, seekers who want to re-vision any aspect of their lives once again find their own ‘True North’, the place of wisdom and encouragement.
From providing in-home intensives, to private practice, to workshops both nationally and abroad in Shamanic Breathwork, Medicine Wheel, Jungian Shadow Recognition, Hands-On Healing, Voice Dialogue, and EMDR, Robyn (also named “She Who Shows The Way” by the Seneca Wolf Clan Teaching Lodge) has focused on the healing power of compassion, the vibrancy of connecting in nature, the practice of forgiveness, and the empowerment of joy.
Now illuminating nature’s healing capacity as it immerses us into a timely eco-psychology, Robyn has written three ‘medicine’ books: Moose Medicine: Healing Wisdom from the Natural World, Two Legged Medicine: How to Be Your Own Brilliant Therapist, and Turtle Medicine: The Art of Swimming Sideways. In addition, she has published four books of poetry and created an audio workshop CD: The Return of the Sacred Feminine in Nature and Consciousness.
