When your soul is in need of inspiration, exploration, or repair, what do you do? When your life is at a juncture and belief systems are shifting, where do you go?
Perhaps you’ll do (or did) what I have (at least as a healthy response!). Find a great therapist. Read lots of self-help books. Learn to allow your emotions and see them as valuable signs. And perhaps also experience, first-hand, the powerful solace of nature itself.
Nature has always offered a container for renewal and transformation. As we take our angst, questions, brokenness, and even our joy into the natural world, we find ourselves met and understood. In the wild, we meet our own wildness. In the quiet, we renew our own inner quiet. Breathing in the rhythms of the natural world, our own rhythms slow and come into balance, the way we were designed to be. We become the hologram of our natural selves, thinking and acting in sync with all around us. We reconnect and re-member our true nature. In this way, we truly become the change we wish to see, able to link our spirits with other sentient beings, gathering healing and peace.
This solace from the outer landscape of nature integrates into our daily lives as we clear out the knots in our psyches. Exploring our inner landscapes, we careen through the wounded, dry, thirsting places, dead-end trails, violent weather patterns, and untended parts. As we experience compassion, we heal, accessing clear spring waters. We discover the trustable and stable structure of our psyches’ ability to interface with pure Spirit, fulfilling our soul’s destiny. A sustainable joy with inspired energy results.
